The morning of April 26th, 2013, at the Opera House, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held the 50th anniversary of the establishment (04/27/1963 - 04/27/2013).

On April 27th,1963, on behalf of Vietnam Government, the Prime Minister Pham Van Dong signed Decision No. 58-CP of Vietnam Chamber of Commercial and Industry (VCCI) foundation of Democratic Republic of Vietnam. From its inception until now during 50 years, VCCI has been evolving and becoming a solid prop for Vietnamese business and entrepreneur community.  As a national organization representing the business community in Vietnam, VCCI has contributed to promote the formation and development of economic institutions in Vietnam market, establish a enterprise and entrepreneur contingent and improve the business and investment environment, become an important bridge between the state and enterprises which aim to develop the country's economy

Expressing the opening of ceremony, Dr. Vu Tien Loc - Chairman of VCCI, speaks: in the first 30 years, from 1963 to 1993, VCCI has made important contributions to the development of business community and Vietnam economy. However, due to the separation and the first transition, VCCI did not have conditions for development of its role in the economy.

Since 1993 to now, VCCI is elevated on the organization and completely function of a national organization that represent, protect the interests and support, promote the Vietnam business community in all economic fields, business and labor relations. VCCI has gathered in its organization nearly 11,000 direct members and over 100,000 indirect members representing the various economic sectors. Most corporations, State owner company, Private company, large associations are members of VCCI.

"Looking back half a century journey, we can be proud of the enormous contribution with the meaning of the pioneer generation members, staff of VCCI in the renovation, in the development of Vietnam economy and business community "- Dr. Vu Tien Loc stressed.

Vietnam economy and business community is entering a new stage of development in which the restructuring requirements towards a modern structure and sustainability become vital issue. VCCI as the national organization of the business community has an important role to support enterprises in implementing the requirements. To achieve this, VCCI should be more responsible and more astute in policy advisory activities to contribute to perfecting the market economic institution, ensuring a fair business environment and transparency; need more dedicate and more professional in the promotion and entrepreneur support, especially the SME sector; must put more effort into initiatives that connects businesses, building a network of association and business community, helping Vietnam economy not only strong individual entrepreneurs but also strong business community.

That's the important tasks that VCCI must perform to contribute to capacity building of the contingent of enterprises, entrepreneurs, ensuring success in integration and competition.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Government – Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan gives congratulations to VCCI and express: "Due to establishment in Vietnam’s hard condition, VCCI operated in narrow range. Only when the renewal of the Party and the State began, VCCI had condition to expansion of their activities. At the Second Congress, 1993, VCCI were identified as independent organization, non-government. Throughout Congresses, VCCI has grown dramatically both in quantity and quality, to fulfill the tasks assigned to the Party and State. On that basis, VCCI has had important contributions in the completion of the policies, business environment, in collaboration with government agencies to organize trade and investment promotion, to has the initiative for dialogue mechanism ... Besides, VCCI also actively supports enterprises, promotes quality businesses towards sustainable development. VCCI’s efforts was awarded by Government and Party by many noble medals ".

At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister- Mr.Nguyen Thien Nhan awarded the First Class Independence Medal for Mr. Doan Duy Thanh - Former vice president of the Minister Council, Former President of VCCI; Dr. Vu Tien Loc also awarded a medal of business development for Ngoc Doan Bong - Former Vice President of VCCI, Mrs. Pham Chi Lan - Former Vice President of VCCI, Mr. Dao Duy Chu - Former Vice President of VCCI .

Share at ceremony, Mr. Preben Hjortlund - President of Eurocham in Vietnam said 2013 was an important year for both the VCCI and EuroCham, marking 50 years of VCCI’s operation and 15 years of EuroCham’s operation. During this operation, two chambers have established important relationships towards the goal of building a sustainable business environment in Vietnam.

VCCI is one of the important partners of EuroCham and VCCI has demonstrated an important role for the private economic sector in Vietnam. The partnership between VCCI and EuroCham take many forms which can be found through the cooperation in many different forums as Vietnam - European Union Business Forum (VEUBF), Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) and a range of issues from macroeconomics to specific problems of each industry.

Ending the celebration, Dr. Vu Tien Loc, thanks to the leaders of the Party, the State, ministries, departments and business associations, the local celebrations to take part in The 50th founding anniversary of VCCI. On behalf of VCCI, Dr. Vu Tien Loc promised to continuously promote traditional of solidarity, dynamic, innovation, completion of assigned tasks, participation actively in the development of the country and expressed his wish that all the business community continue to work together to take the VCCI.

Dr. Loc states that:  "In the near future, we will implement Resolution 09 of the Politburo on building and promoting the role of Vietnam entrepreneurs and the overall program of Government’s restructuring in best way. We will try to implement well this second important goal."
